Gifts don't have to be physical ones — although we do love those. A surprise breakfast, or brunch, that you slaved over for your favorite person will make their hearts flutter. But if griddle sounds like a verb to you, we've got your back in the kitchen. Here's a sweet recipe for you to impress your sweetie with.

Ingredients:

2 cups all-purpose flour
3 tbsps sugar
2 tsps baking powder
1 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
2 1/2 cups buttermilk
3 large eggs
3 tbsps unsalted butter, melted + oil for the skillet

Instructions:

Sift all dry ingredients in a large bowl. Add buttermilk, egg yolks and melted butter. Stir until the batter is smooth. Beat egg whites in electric mixer until stiff peaks form. Using a spatula, fold the egg whites into the batter,

Pour 1/3 cup batter onto your skillet and cook until both sides are golden brown. And it's done!

Garnish:
If you're going for a classic breakfast/brunch, serve the pancakes hot with butter and pure maple syrup. If you like all the fixings, go crazy with blueberries, peaches, chocolate chips, bananas, peanut butter or nuts. Add the fruits, chocolate chips or nuts to your batter before you cook your pancake. The peanut butter is spread on the pancake when served.

Hungry sweet-toothed eaters will appreciate the peanut butter and chocolate chip combo.
